Update of OS from Android 6

Cinera is currently running Android v6, but I'm noticing that updates for many apps (including Netflix) are only available on later versions of Android.

Will new firmware be released to enable Cinera to run on a more recent version of Android, and keep up with the app updates?

Luke_T Judging by the fact that there is no support left for Cinera, i highly doubt it. None of the support websites work any longer.

Too bad. I love the thing, but i knew as soon as they sent me the wrong color and basically said deal with it, that this was not going to be long supported.

BFGimP Yes, since Stefan left support in the forum abruptly ceased.

What blows my mind is that some backers are STILL waiting for their headsets, while the firmware has gone out of date (with no update likely at this point) before they even receive it.

Cinera remains the best 'Crowdfunding' experience I've had so far out of about a half-dozen.

None have fully delivered on their promises and met my expectations, but at least Cinera actually delivered something - one of the campaigns I've backed folded with no perks provided to backers at all, that was for a couple of hundred dollars.

A couple of projects delivered products that were far below expectations.

Cinera isn't perfect, but they brought something into existence that fulfilled a wish I had for such a product, and it works remarkably well under the right conditions. I just wish they would be more open and honest. There has still been no official announcement that they are shutting down or ceasing support - they've just abandoned the project and left everything as is.

The only activity I am now aware of is the shipping of the final batch of promised headsets to backers.

ZpaulZ There's been some activity from Peter (Cinera CEO) on this forum recently, so there may be more life in Cinera than we had previously thought after all....

Luke_T That is great news. I hope he realises that this device has always had the potential to corner the market because it's the best device on the market. So much more advanced compared to what is available. A few tweaks with firmware updates a relaunch and it's back in the top spot making profitable sales for new units

ZpaulZ I agree. I bought a Playstation VR headset over Christmas, and I couldn't resist trying out previewing a 3D movie with it.

The head tracking and screen size were great, and the 3D effect was fine, but I really missed the image clarity of Cinera - there was no comparison.

Fingers crossed for good news to come...

ZpaulZ Do you mean the PS VR? I'll hang onto it. Bought it at a good price second-hand, and my son will love it for games and immersive VR experiences.

The 3D effect is very good, and the viewing angle works nicely with the head tracking, but it's no substitute for a cinema headset with decent resolution screens though.

I'm watching very closely for updates on the next-generation Playstation/VR headset, as I expect the specs on those to lend themselves far better to watching 2D/3D movies. I don't find the headset uncomfortable, or the lenses straining on the eyes, even after some extended use. Though, I've not tried to watch an entire film with them yet. They work best when you take in the overall immersive environment and don't concentrate too hard on the details, as all you perceive is the screen door effect.
